2009 and Death

2009 was a remarkable year for me. But it seemed like the chosen year to evoke the topic about death. Most people don't pay attention to the obituary section. However, with the deaths of so many celebrities, everyone's been feeling the pinch of death this year.

It seems like a morbid topic, death. But I think most people should think of it as necessary evil.

Death is like...fuel in the core of every being. Imagine not knowing death. Imagine if you thought you're going to live forever. Would you get out of that couch? Would you strive to find purpose in your life? Would you stop watching re-runs of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.? I used to despise death. I used to think of it as a robber. Death...the very thing which robs the loved ones away from people. It sure is,but just like fungi, death is part of the natural cycle.

It's not only fuel in the core of us but also reminds us of our vulnerability towards the events of nature. Mankind would be prouder than they already are and that would do more harm than good. Maybe death is like the constellations, the planets, the universe. It's there. It's nature's way of saying there's always something bigger than you, something you can't totally grasp. I have no doubt that men and women have numerous responsibilities...and one of it is to be caretakers of planet Earth. Sure,we may be on top of this hierarchy on earth but like any other hierarchies, even the lowest level in this hierarchy has got to be taken care of well. If not, mankind would just go KAPUT. And I think death is a reminder to that.

I could go on and on about the importance of death but I won't. Maybe another time because I don't want to make my post too long with words ( I totally understand what popular culture has done to the attention span of kids these days ).

But please,do not misunderstand me. I think it's natural to mourn the death of a loved one. But I'm just stating my point of view and I hope you'd see that death is not all that negative.

I'd like to dedicate this post to The King Of Pop. His music has made me a better person and I'm sure he's in a better place.

Mellow Beats

If you're looking for something mellow but will still keep you on your feet, you should check The Whitest Boy Alive out. The vocalist has a semi-dreamy and semi-calming voice which just keeps you listening to them. They're electronic dance but not in a typical way which will keep your heart pumping. It's kind of like jazz meets Lady Gaga.

It's mellow but not boring. It's radical but you'd find traces of Pop culture in it.

Anyway, here's my favourite video by them - Golden Cage.
It's the most accessible song by them and of course, the most interesting video.

Green Tip : Washing clothes in "hot" water heated to 60 degree Celsius ( 140 degree Farenheit ) uses almost twice as much energy as washing them in "warm water" 40 degree Celsius ( 104 degree Farenheit ) .

Spread The Warmth

Hello boys and girls. I am so psyched about Christmas this year because I won't have to be making desperate attempts at looking dainty and formal.

Yeap,my family and I decided to do it ol' school this year, where we get together with our families in our private little places and wear our PJs just because it's so comfortable. There's no make-up,no formal dresses,no pain from high heels,no camera flashes and really, with so little distractions, I think it's a whole lot easier to feel the warmth within families. This just proves Christmas is more than a very clever sales gimmick.

For Christians,Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus. But in a modern world like today, where everything is concrete, cemented and cold...we need more celebrations like Christmas ( minus the massive waste from wrapping papers and unnecessary presents ). I may start to sound like an annoying narrator on sappy Christmas shows like the ones they show on Hallmark (although I love Oprah Winfrey ), but it's just a reminder.

Remember to spread the warmth this holiday. I don't mean in a global warming sense, I meant the warm fuzzy feeling somewhere near your gut.

Green Tip : Use recycled wrapping papers or materials from old magazines to save papers ( hence the trees ) and money!

New Moon Gives Vampire A Bad Name

Hello everyday people,

There's something STILL bothering me during my waking life.

What's with the whole hype over New Moon?

Maybe I'm just too jaded to understand the whole romantic idealistic ideas they injected into the story. You must all know that romance like these are all just as real as the existence of vampires right? But seriously, it's really poorly done. The story is shallow, the storytelling is abrupt and I don't see any chemistry between the characters. Everything is just so forced.

I am a huge fan of vampires and the idea of them. I think they are one cool mythical creatures.

All you cynical non-vampire fans out there, I beg you please, please do not judge vampires based on this Twilight mania. If you think that you can find some love somewhere in your heart to give vampires a chance to be accepted by you, please check out the more mainstream yet acceptable vampire must-see checklist below.

#1 Interview With The Vampire (Movie)
#2 Underworld 1 & 3 (Movie)
#3 The Bite Club by Vertigo Comic (Graphic Novel)
#4 Dracula by Bram Stoker (Book)
#5 Buffy The Vampire Slayer (TV Series)
#6 True Blood (TV Series)

You must realize that these six titles are some of the stories I have been following religiously and loving it. Reason for these recommendations are simply because some are humorous, witty, dark, and simply nice to follow. There's no lame I-love-you-you-love-me-but-we-cannot-be-together drama.

Alright, before you New Moon fans sink in your fangs, I will give this movie ONE credit. Dakota Fanning. :)

P.S. Look out for another upcoming vampire movie in 2010 'Daybreakers'. Looks hopeful. *keeps fingers and toes crossed*

Action Of The Day : Call someone you love and tell them that you miss them.

We're On Top

I was watching The Day The Earth Stood Still the other day. It was pretty interesting because in that show, the humans had to be wiped out for the Earth to survive ( which is what my ex-Biology teacher and Al Gore was always trying to tell me ).

The Earth used to have comets as enemies because of the damaging effect it gave on Earth.
However,Mother Nature has waged war against a new enemy, which is what we call MANKIND.
I mean if you look at the big picture,we are actually the villains in the story. If someone were to write a story about us,let's say apes could write in their own language,we would definitely be the villains. And if other apes or the future replacement of mankind were to read it as history books,we'd be the villains. They'd say,"Hey.they deserved to be wiped out,eh!"

Or...we could win this war against global warming. Just by practicing sustainability. Not by giving up comfort but just adding the little effort.

I mean, people,we're on top of the ecosystem. That could mean a whole lot of good or a whole lot of evil.

"With great power comes great responsibilities." Haha. We've all heard of that, haven't we? If we're on top of the ecosystem, which means we're the main consumers, which means if we're wiped out...that'd do the earth a lot of good, wouldn't it? I hate coming across as pessimistic because I'm not. I'm just conveying the truth that people don't seem to understand. Because I believe in mankind and goodness. And if the world's full of screwed people, then I'd rather take a stand with the minority.

Sonic Indie Scene

Well hello, this will be my first post on music.
I'm just gonna make this short and sweet. This band's a little old,and I'm a late bloomer so yeah, check this song out. It has a tune of its own, suitable for experimental youths with an open mind to new stuff. I think this track was released in year 2008.

The vocalist, who's part of The Dead Weather is smoking and she reminds me of...MEG WHITE.

This tune's pretty fun.If you like this, you should check out Black Balloon.

While I do not advocate the indulgence in cigarettes or in anything that burns, please do enjoy the song. - Black Balloon

Green Tip: PLEASE AVOID TAKING PLASTIC BAGS. Use a large handbag,or a green bag. I don't care how you do it. Just do.

Prologue

This blog is about everything and anything.

Yes,sometimes you may find book reviews, music reviews and movie reviews and other times the 'green propaganda' and if you're lucky you might catch the author whining. I

It's very hard for people to search for solutions to reduce their carbon footprints. So we'll simply post steps so that people can lead a more sustainable life. We'll make the tips short and sweet and practical,ok?

Fortunately,we also understand how popular culture has changed the minds of this generation so I won't go on rambling about steps to take and yadayada. Instead, there'll be more new music being uploaded and I'll try to be kind to your iPod playlist. While you can expect more lady gaga-esque,swing or jazz, and acoustics from Cranx, you may expect offbeat music from Tank.

Oh. And Cranx will be ready to give you the juice on latest events around Klang Valley and places to visit, considering she's the outgoing one ( I'm the sort who gets exhausted by small talks ).

p/s. give me time to improve on my rudimentary writing skills.
